Survey: More than half of Hungarians work overtime

Some 61% of Hungarian men work overtime and more than half of Hungarian women do the same, while those who work in manufacturing and in upper management positions tend to work over 45 hours a week, according to a recent survey by staffing firm Randstad.

Despite the fact that the overtime carried out by Hungarians is in excess of the hours registered in an employeeʼs contract, Hungarians would be willing to work even more hours for additional pay, the findings of the survey show. 

“When choosing a workplace, the most important factor respondents watch is the salary offered by employers, therefore it is not surprising that for extra benefits they would be willing to work more overtime,” Randstad Hungary CEO Sándor Baja said.

Only 5% of the respondents of the survey said they would be willing to work for less money if they had more free time in exchange, Randstad Hungary said. They would choose to work less for a better work and private life balance, as well as to reduce job related stress.

The majority of the respondents said they would prefer to work based on a flexible rather than a fixed working schedule.
