Nielsen: Sales of store brands rise 7% in H1

Sales of store-brand products - food, cosmetics and household chemicals - in Hungary came to HUF 240 bln in the first half of 2015, up 7% from a year earlier, market research company Nielsen reported yesterday.

Sales of store-brand food products amounted to HUF 210 bln in the first six months of 2015, making up 28% of total sales. In household chemicals and cosmetics, sales of store brands accounted for 19% of the total sales of HUF 30 bln.

Store brands generated 69% of the total food sales of discount shops in value terms from January-June, unchanged from a year earlier. In other shop categories, the ratio of store brands fell from the 28% measured in the previous survey.

Nielsen said store brands commanded the highest percentage of the market for pet food and frozen food in value terms last year at 53% and 49%, respectively.

Store brands accounted for 61% in value terms of discount shopsʼs total sales of household chemicals and cosmetics, from January-June, 2 percentage points less than a year earlier.

Store brands generated 47% of the total sales of household paper products and 36% of baby hygiene products in value terms.
