Government to support urban vegetable gardens

Hungarian government is supporting an urban gardening program for young city-dwellers planning to produce home-grown vegetables, Lajos Mikula, the head of the association of young gardeners Agrya, announced at a press conference on Wednesday.

Citizens aged 18-40 with at least seven sqm of growing space can apply for funding and participation in a training program. The program is in line with the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture to return stimulus to shore up food supply chains and home farming, which was popular 30-40 years ago, farming minister Sándor Fazekas said at the press conference, adding that the desire for healthy food produce has brought back the appeal of home vegetable growing.
