KSH confirms 5.8% retail sales growth in August
Sales volume in Hungarian retail stores was up 5.8% in August compared to the same month a year earlier, according to raw data, and by 4.3% adjusted for calendar effects, Hungary’s Central Statistical Office (KSH) confirmed today in a second reading of data.
The volume of sales was up 2.8% in specialized and non-specialized food retail, by 2.5% in non-specialized food and beverage shops (accounting for 76% of food retail) and by 4.0% in specialized food, beverage and tobacco stores, according to data published by the KSH. Turnover of non-food retail increased by 6.1%.
The volume of sales in automotive fuel stations rose by 7.5%, while sales of motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts and accessories not belonging to retail data increased by 12%, the KSH added.
Sales in the national retail trade network, as well as in mail order and internet retail, amounted to HUF 853 billion at current prices, while food, beverage and tobacco stores accounted for 47% of all retail sales. The relevant figures for non-food retail shops and the network of petrol stations were 37% and 16% respectively, the KSH said.
In the January-August period, adjusted for calendar effects, the volume of sales in retail shops increased by 4.9%, while the volume of sales rose by 2.7% in food, beverage and tobacco shops, by 7.8% in non-food retail trade, and by 5.5% in automotive fuel retail, compared to the corresponding period of 2015, according to the KSH.
