August prices steady y-o-y, down slightly since July
Alcohol and tobacco were more expensive, but motor fuels, electricity and natural gas dropped in prices, leaving consumer prices in August unchanged from a year ago, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported today. Prices decreased 0.6% compared with the month before.
Compared with August a year, ago, according to KSH:
• Food prices rose 0.9%.
• Alcoholic beverages and tobacco rose 3.9%.
• Services rose 1.7% including a 5.6% rise for recreational services.
• Electricity, gas and other fuels dropped by 2.7% on average, with the cost of electricity dropping by 5.7%.
Compared with July, according to KSH: Food prices in August fell by 0.7%; services rose by 0.3%; and prices were unchanged for alcoholic beverages and tobacco – as well as electricity, gas and other fuels.
