Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó on Thursday said it is "unacceptable" that no further chapters were opened in Serbia's negotiations on European Union accession in the first half of 2021, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Speaking after talks in Belgrade with Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic, Szijjártó said the accession talks could have been advanced as "the Serbs are doing well" in the process.

He expressed hope more chapters could be opened as Slovenia, "which clearly supports enlargement", takes over the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of the year.
