Hungarian utilities regulator MEKH today issued an operating permit for an interconnector between the gas networks of Hungary and Slovakia, thereby paving the way for its operation from July 1, Hungarian daily Magyar Nemzet reported.

Hungarian state-owned Magyar Gáz Tranzit received the green light from MEKH for both the operation of the pipeline and the delivery of gas, the paper said.

Test operation of the pipeline was recently completed and Magyar Gáz Tranzit, together with Slovakian peer Eustream, announced the Assessment of Capacity Demand, Capacity Booking and Capacity Sales procedure, or Open Season, for the pipeline from July 1, 2015 until September 30, 2016, the paper added.

Annual capacity of the pipeline is 4.4 billion cubic meters in the direction of Hungary and 1.6 bln in the direction of Slovakia, the paper said.
