Hungary strikes deal with Gazprom on gas deliveries

Hungary has reached an agreement with Russiaʼs Gazprom on the volume and price of next yearʼs gas deliveries, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced today, after participating at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Negotiations were also started on gas deliveries for 2020, Szijjártó said, noting that Hungaryʼs long-term contract for gas deliveries from Russian runs until 2021, national news agency MTI reported.

Szijjártó met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller and Rosatom deputy-CEO Kirill Komarov during his visit to St. Petersburg.

Rosatom said on Friday that it would start construction of two blocks at Hungaryʼs Paks nuclear power plant in 2020 and that the blocks would go online in 2026 and 2027. Rosatom is the general contractor for the Paks project.
