EC faults Hungary for falling behind recycling targets

EU

The European Commission said Hungary has missed its recycling targets "by a considerable margin" since 2012 in a report published on Monday, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.

Hungary was among 14 European Union member states the European Commission said are at risk of missing the target for recycling half of all waste by 2020, but the country was singled out, together with Malta, for the most sizeable shortfalls.

The European Commission has made proposals to help the 14 member states meet their targets. In a follow-up to the report, it will also visit the member states "to discuss the opportunities and challenges" with authorities and stakeholders, MTI reported.
