In euro terms, exports dropped by 3.8% and imports by 1.1% in March 2018 compared to the same month of 2017. Trade was impacted by there being two fewer working days this March than a year earlier.

In March 2018, the value of exports amounted to EUR 9.124 billion and that of imports to EUR 8.566 bln, according to a first estimate of monthly data for the external trade in goods from the Central Statistical Office (KSH).

The trade surplus was thus EUR 558 million, down EUR 264 mln year-on-year.

The share of trade with other European Union member states was 81% of exports and 77% of imports.

In January-March, exports were up 3.4% annually at EUR 26.134 bln, while imports rose 3.9% to EUR 24.037 bln.  The trade surplus in the first quarter was thus EUR 2.097 bln, down EUR 54 mln from the same period of last year.

The KSH will publish a second, more detailed reading of the March external trade data on June 1.
