Trade surplus reaches EUR 1.06 bln in June

The surplus in the external trade in goods in June 2017 amounted to EUR 1.06 billion, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) revealed in a first reading of data on Tuesday. In euro terms, exports were up by 4.5% and imports by 6.5% compared to the same month of 2016.

The surplus in June was down EUR 97 million from the same month a year earlier.

The value of exports rose 4.5% year-on-year in June to EUR 8.82 bln, while imports were up 6.5% at EUR 7.76 bln.

About 79% of exports and 78% of imports were traded with other European Union member states.

In the period of January-June, exports were up 9.9% at EUR 50.986 bln, while imports rose 11.3% to EUR 45.609 bln.

In the first six months of the year, the trade surplus reached EUR 5.377 bln, down EUR 41 mln from the corresponding period a year earlier, the KSH said.

A second estimate of June figures for the external trade in goods will be published by the KSH on September 1.
