MNB

In euro terms, exports were up 11.4% and imports by 10.6% in July 2018, compared to the same month of the previous year, according to a first estimate of monthly data for the external trade in goods from the Central Statistical Office (KSH).

In July 2018, the value of exports amounted to EUR 8.434 billion, and that of imports to EUR 8.061 bln. The trade surplus was thus EUR 373 million in July, up by EUR 91 mln year-on-year.

The share of European Union Member States was 80% in exports and 75% in imports, noted the KSH.

In January-July 2018, exports amounted to EUR 61.813 bln, up 5.7% year-on-year, while imports totaled EUR 57.220 bln, up 6.8%. The surplus over the first seven months thus amounted to EUR 4.593 bln, some EUR 307 mln less than in January-July 2017.

Speaking to state news agency MTI, TakarékBank analyst Gergely Suppan projected the full-year 2018 trade surplus at EUR 7.53 bln, down from last yearʼs EUR 8.078 bln.

A second, more detailed estimate of data for the external trade in goods in July 2018 will be published on October 2.
