Instead of privatizations, the government aims at strengthening the state's position as owner in the strategic economic sectors, state secretary at the Ministry of National Economy, Sára Hegman Nemes, said at forum on Wednesday. State ownership has diminished to one-tenth of the original in the last twenty years as a result of unreasonable and irresponsible management, Hegman Nemes said. The present government changed direction, and closing down the age of privatisations it emphasises the preservation, expansion and efficient utilisition of state-owned businesses. The state secretary mentioned the shares acquired by the state in Mol, Rába and the gas sector of E.On as examples, and added that the government is in talks on acquisition of further strategic gas storages. The ministry plans to multiply profitable businesses, a process which may need new financial resources, partly from issuing bonds, Hegman Nemes said.
