Tender for new Danube bridge in joint project with Slovakia

The National Infrastructure Development Company (NIF) has called a public procurement tender for the construction of a new bridge over the Danube between Komárom in Hungary and Komárno in Slovakia, the NIF told Hungarian news agency MTI Tuesday.
The NIF said it will sign a contract with the winning applicant in December 2016 if the tender is successful, with work set to begin early next year.
The new bridge, to be built west of the existing railway bridge, is expected to be put into service in fall 2019.
Hungary and Slovakia submitted a joint application for European Union funding for the construction of the bridge and the adjoining roads. The investment is being coordinated by Hungary.
The development will be financed from 85% European Union funding and 15% national funding.
Slovak investor SSC said construction work on the Slovak side will start at the end of September 2016. SSC said the total cost of the investment is EUR 117 mln, with the European Union providing EUR 52.2 mln to Hungary and EUR 47.6 mln to Slovakia.
