Questions of economic cooperation between Russia and Hungary will be high on the agenda of talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a scheduled visit to Budapest tomorrow, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told Hungarian news agency MTI today. Hungarian machinery and food industry investments in Russia could also be discussed.
In connection with the meeting, Szijjártó said the sides will discuss the future of cooperation between the European Union and Russia. The Hungarian minister said it is in the interest of all EU member states, not just Hungary, that a pragmatic cooperation, befitting the sidesʼ economic interests, be re-established.
Though the impact of European Union sanctions on Russia and Russiaʼs embargo on farm products from the EU have cut trade between Hungary and Russia, there are areas, unaffected by the sanctions, in which the decline could be slowed or halted with some effort, the minister told MTI.
