The gross minimum wage was already higher in Romania (more than EUR 600) than in Hungary (EUR 578) at the beginning of the year, according to recent data from the EU statistical agency Eurostat.
This puts Hungary ahead of only Bulgaria in the EU, where the minimum wage is less than EUR 400.
Minimum wages in the region increased by 6-8% on average annually, thanks to which the nations largely stayed together.
Meanwhile, the average annual growth in Hungary was below 6%, in which the continuous devaluation of the forint played a significant role.
