Serbia's employed population up in 2020

The employed population in Serbia totaled 2,215,475 in 2020, which is a 1.9% increase relative to 2019, the Serbian Statistical Office (SORS) said last week.

Number of employees at legal entities, entrepreneurs, as well as persons performing occupations/activities independently or who are founders of enterprises or unincorporated enterprises amounted to 2,149,099 and compared to 2019, it is the increase of 2.3%.

The number of entrepreneurs, their employees and self-employed individuals totaled 384,972, or 2% higher than in 2019. More than a third of the employed population, 759,045 people, worked in the Belgrade region, according to the statistics agency.

In 2020, the greatest increase was noted in the sector of manufacturing (16,393 person) construction (9,620 person) information and communication (6,104 person) and wholesale and trade and repair of motor vehicles (5,458 person), the statistics agency added.
