Population down to 9.689 mln last year
Hungary's population stood at 9.689 million at the end of 2021, edging down from 9,730,800 a year earlier, according to data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH).
The natural decrease of the population was 62,000 for the year, the difference between 93,000 live births and 155,000 deaths.
The number of live births edged up 0.7% as the fertility rate rose to 1.59% from 1.56%.
The number of deaths climbed 9.9%.
