Poland May Inflation Confirmed at 2.5%

Poland's annual inflation rate edged up to 2.5% in May from 2.4% in the previous month, matching preliminary estimates, final reading from the Warsaw-based Central Statistical Office (GUS) showed on Friday.

Inflation accelerated for housing & utilities (1.6% vs 1.4% in April) and communication (2.2% vs 1.7%), while rebounding for transportation (2.2% vs -1.6%).

On the other hand, prices rose at a slower pace for food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.6% vs 1.9%), alcoholic beverages & tobacco (4.1% vs 4.6%), furnishings, household equipment & maintenance (1.4% vs 2.2%), health (2.8% vs 3.9%), recreation (3.7% vs 4.5%), restaurants (7.9% vs 8.3%), and miscellaneous goods & services (3.7% vs 5.1%).

Meanwhile, costs fell for clothing & footwear (-0.2% vs 0.4%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.1% in May, in line with preliminary estimates.
