Number of Road Accidents Involving Injury Climbs

The number of road accidents involving injury in Hungary reached 4,057 in the second quarter, rising close to 9% from the same period a year earlier, state news wire MTI reports, citing data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH).

KSH noted that road traffic climbed 11% during the period.

The data show 5,322 people were injured in road accidents in Q1, including 1,339 who suffered serious injuries. The number of fatalities reached 129.

ust 162 accidents involving injury took place on Hungarian motorways. There were ten fatalities in the accidents. The M5, between the capital and the border with Serbia, had the highest rate of accidents per hundred kilometers of motorway: 21.7. The lowest rate - 4 accidents per hundred kilometers - was on the M6, which connects Budapest with Pécs, in the southwest.
