N. Macedonia's Annual Inflation Decelerates in May

North Macedonia's average consumer prices went up 11.3% year-on-year in May, after rising by an annual 13% in April, the Skopje-based State Statistical Office (Makstat) said in a statement.

Food prices rose at the softest pace in 17 months (7.1% vs 9.7% in April), while transport costs declined (-2.7% vs 5.3%).

There was also a slowdown in prices of housing & utilities (4.4% vs 15.1%), furniture & household equipment (15.3% vs 16.2%), alcoholic beverages & tobacco (8.6% vs 8.7%), clothing & footwear (4.8% vs 4.9%) and recreation & culture (6.3% vs 7.6%).

On the other hand, inflation accelerated for health (4.6% vs 3.8%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up by 0.4%, following a 0.7% rise in April.
