Motorway vignette sales in Hungary came close to 7.8 million in January-June, around 6% more than in the same period in 2019, before the coronavirus crisis, toll operator NÚSZ said.
NÚSZ said sales were lifted by the return of foreign motorists.
Motorists bought close to 4 mln 10-day vignettes, more than 1 mln 1-month vignettes, and 570,000 annual vignettes valid for all motorways in the country during the period. More than 2.2 mln annual vignettes good for traveling on motorways in a single county were also sold.
Sales of the 10-day vignette, favored by foreign travelers, climbed 38% from the same period a year earlier. Motorists bought 568,000 vignettes for vehicles with German number plates. Vehicles with Romanian plates accounted for 555,000 of the sales and ones with Austrian plates for 333,000.
Revenue from motorway vignettes reached HUF 62.7 billion in January-June.
