Montenegro Inflation Eases Further in May

Montenegro's consumer price index (CPI) increased by 8.4% year-on-year in May, after rising by an annual 8.6% in April, the Statistical Office of Montenegro (Monstat) said on Thursday.

Prices moderated mainly for food & non-alcoholic beverages (10.7% vs 11.6% in April) and housing & utilities (12.6% vs 14.3%). Additionally, transport costs dropped further (-4.5% vs -4.1%).

Meanwhile, inflation accelerated for clothing & footwear (10.1% vs 7.8%), restaurants & hotels (16.5% vs 15.7%), miscellaneous goods & services (17% vs 14.4%), and furniture & household equipment (11.5% vs 11.1%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices were up by 0.5%, following a 0.2% rise in April, the Podgorica-based agency said.
