Latvia inflation rate hits record high in June

Consumer prices in Latvia climbed 19.3% year-on-year in June, accelerating sharply from a 16.9% hike in the previous month, data released by the Riga-based Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) showed.

It was the highest inflation rate ever recorded, mainly influenced by the rise in prices of goods and services related to housing (39.9%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (22.1%); transport (32.2%); restaurant and hotel services (+14.1%).

On a monthly comparison basis, consumer prices rose 2.4%, slowing sharply from a 4% jump in the previous month.
