KSH: Hungary’s CPI up 0.6% in June

Analyst expectations turned true in June with Hungary’s consumer prices index edging up by a year-on-year 0.6%, accelerating from the previous month’s 0.5%, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said today.

The consumer prices index began rising after a continuous eight-month fall which came to an end in May.

In year-on year terms, food prices in general rose by 1.4%, however, a price decrease was seen in the case of sugar (15.4%), milk (8%), cheese (6.1%) and flour (5.9%), KSH data reveal. The price increase on services was 1.9%, while a slight price increase was measured in the case of consumer durable goods (0.8%) and clothing and footwear (0.1%) as well.

KSH said that consumers paid 2.3% less for other goods (including household and pharmaceutical products, as well as motor fuels and recreational goods), and within this the prices of motor fuels decreased by 7.3%. The decrease in the price of electricity, gas and other fuels was 2.7% on average, and within this, consumers paid 5.7% less for electricity and 3.4% less for purchased heat.

In month-on-month terms, consumer prices rose by an average 0.2%, with food prices remaining unchanged. The price of other goods rose the most, by 0.8%, and in this group consumers paid 1.6% more for motor fuels. The price increase on alcoholic beverages and tobacco was 0.3% on average. The price of services, consumer durable goods, electricity, gas and other fuels remained unchanged. Consumers paid 0.1% less for clothing and footwear.
