Industrial producer prices up 9.7% yr/yr in August

Prices for non-durable consumer goods rose 0.9% year on year in August and were up 0.8% from July. The twelve-month increase compared to a 5.3% rise in May, a 7.9% rise in June and a 9.5% increase in July. The monthly increase slowed from 1.2% in July. Producer prices for domestic sale rose 11.1% year on year in August and were up 3.1% from July. Producer prices for industrial exports in forint terms rose 8.7% year on year in August and were down 1.8% from July. The forint's firming was a main factor in the sharp monthly decrease in forint-term export prices, KSH said. The forint strengthened 1.2% to the euro and 2.2% to the US dollar in August from July. Compared to August 2005, the forint weakened 12.2% to the euro and 7.6% to the dollar. Export prices in the electric machinery and instruments sector, the biggest segment in terms of exports, rose 1.5% year on year in August, but fell 4.7% from July. In the vehicle manufacturing sector, which accounted for 22.3% of all of Hungary's exports, prices for export rose 12% year on year and were up 1.1% from July. Export prices in the machinery manufacturing sector, which accounted for 5.1% of exports, increased 11% year on year, but fell 0.2% from July. Prices for domestic sale in the manufacturing industry, which accounts for 73.4% of all domestic sales, rose 7.8% year on year in August and were up 0.9% from July. Food industry prices for domestic sale increased 3.1% year on year and were up 1.1% from July. Domestic prices in the energy and water supply sector rose 21.4% year on year and rose 9.7% from July. Domestic prices in the energy production sector rose 19.7% year on year in August and were up 7.6% from July. Domestic prices in the capital goods segment rose 4.3% year on year in August and increased 0.5% from July. In the consumer goods sector, domestic prices rose 1.2% year on year in August and were up 0.8% from one month earlier. Consumer durable prices increased 4.7% year on year and were up 0.3% from July.
