Hungary's September trade deficit revised down to €81 mln

Figures

Hungary\'s trade deficit was €81 mln in September, €29 mln less than in the same month a year earlier, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported on Tuesday in a second reading of the figures.

The new figure is €34 million than the preliminary one published on November 9. The revised figure brings the January-September trade deficit to €1.7486 billion, €46 million less than the preliminary figure, and €423 million less than the deficit recorded in same period in 2005. In euro terms, September exports rose 7.8% year-on-year to €5.248 billion, and exports in January-September increased 15.3% year-on-year to €41.980 billion. Euro-term imports were up 7.1% year-on-year at €5.329 billion in September, and they rose 13.4% year-on-year in the first nine months to €43.728 billion. In volume terms, exports were up 9.1% year-on-year in September and imports rose 7.6%. Nine-month export volume rose 15.6% year-on-year and import volume increased 11.3%. Hungary\'s terms of trade deteriorated 2% in the first nine months of 2006 compared to the same period last year as export prices rose 7.3% in forint terms and import prices rose 9.4% in the period. The worsening reflected a rise in energy import prices, KSH noted. In foreign currency terms, nine-month export prices were practically unchanged and import prices rose 1.5%, KSH said citing an approximately 8% weakening of the forint in the period. (Mti-Eco)
