Prices at the pump in Hungary were under the average in neighbouring countries during the week, data compiled from the EU Weekly Oil Bulletin by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) published on Friday show.

The price of petrol in Hungary averaged 595/litre during the week, HUF 14 under the average in neighboring countries. The price of diesel stood at HUF 607/liter, HUF 1 less than the average in neighboring countries.

The National Economy Ministry said the government continued to track and analyse fuel price developments in a statement issued on Friday. It is "unacceptable" for Hungarian families to pay more at the pump than people in neighbouring countries, it added.

"Cooperation with motor fuel sellers remains important and the government trusts that those companies will adjust their prices to the average in neighboring countries in the future, too," the ministry said.
