Hungary Household Spending Ratio on Food Over EU Avg

Spending on food and non-alcoholic beverages accounts for about 18% of household expenditures in Hungary, over the 14% ratio for the European Union as a whole, news agency MTI reports, citing data compiled by Eurostat.

The data, from 2021, show household spending ratios on food and drink are over the EU average in neighboring countries, too, standing at 17% in Czechia, 20% in Poland,and 20% in Slovakia. In Romania, the ratio is close to 25%, the highest in the EU.

In Germany, around 12% of household expenditures goes toward food and drink. In Austria, the ratio is 11%.
