Hungarian Unis Accept Close to 95,000 New Students

Hungarian universities have accepted 94,785 of 126,449 new applications for enrollment in the fall semester, state secretary for higher education Balázs Hankó said on Thursday, a day after the announcement of admissions point thresholds, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

The number of admissions is up 28% from a year earlier and the highest of the past 10 years, Hankó said. Eight in 10 accepted students will start their courses of study on scholarship, he added.

The number of admissions in Stem subjects rose 34% from a year earlier, while the number in economic sciences climbed 22%.

Eötvös Loránd University (Elte), in the capital, admitted the most new students, followed by the University of Debrecen and the University of Szeged.
