Farm gate prices increase 9.9% yr/yr in January-October - extended

Farm gate prices in Hungary rose 9.9% year-on-year in January-October, 2006, with crop prices increasing 16.5% and livestock and animal product prices increasing 3.9%, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported on Wednesday.
In October alone, farm gate prices rose 12.4% year-on-year, with crop prices rising 17.6% and livestock and animal product prices up 7.9%. In 2005, farm gate prices rose 0.7%, with crop prices falling 0.6% and livestock and animal product prices increasing 1.8%.
Average farm gate prices of cereals rose 32.3% year-on-year in October 2006 and were up 20.8% year-on-year in January-October, 2006, albeit from a low base. Prices of vegetables in October increased 2.6% year-on-year and were up 15.7% year-on-year in January-October. Fruit prices were 21.8% higher in October than a year earlier and rose 16.1% in January-October from the same period of 2005.
Farm gate prices of live animals increased 10.9% year-on-year in October and were up 5.1% in the first ten months from a year earlier. The price of live cattle rose 25.5% in October and rose 15.8% in a ten months comparison, hog prices rose 13.2% (7.1% year-on-year in January-October), while prices of poultry rose 3.8% year-on-year October but were down 0.6% in the first ten months.
