Czech Inflation Eases Slightly in December

Consumer prices in the Czech Republic's climbed 15.8% year-on-year in December, slower than the 16.2% rise in November, data from the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO) showed on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, economists had expected inflation to rise to 16.4%. The overall strong inflation in December was largely driven by a 25.5% surge in prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Meanwhile price growth in transportation slowed to 9.2% in December from 13.6% in the prior month.

Utility costs were 17% more expensive compared to last year, and those of clothing and footwear also registered a double-digit growth of 17.9%. On a monthly comparison basis, consumer prices remained flat in December versus an expected increase of 0.5%.
