Catering industry turnover climbs 26% in 2021

Figures

Turnover of catering businesses in Hungary rose 26% to HUF 1.031 tln last year, the Hungarian Tourism Agency said on Monday, citing tax office data collected directly from tills.

Turnover was just 3% short of the level in 2019, before the coronavirus crisis.

Close to 34% of last year's catering revenue was realized in the capital and 10% in Pest County, which surrounds Budapest. Catering businesses in Győr-Moson-Sopron County and Veszprém County, in the west of the country, each accounted for about 5% of the total.

Since September, catering industry turnover has matched levels in 2019, the agency noted.
