Samsung SDI to invest $529 mln to up OLED output

Analysis

South Korean display maker Samsung SDI Co said it would invest 551.8 billion won ($528.6 million) until mid-2009 to expand output of slim and power-efficient next-generation organic displays.

Samsung SDI said in a filing with the Korea Exchange the investment will be made to boost output of active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AM OLED) displays. It did not elaborate.

Samsung SDI produces small AM OLED screens used in handheld devices, while Japan's Sony Corp last November started selling small-sized TVs using OLED technology. Toshiba Corp also plans to ship small-to-medium-size OLED screens for mobile devices in the autumn. (Reuters)
