Report: Electricity demand peaks during heat wave
Electricity demand in Hungary reached a new summer peak on Tuesday as people tried to stay cool during a heat wave, dailies said yesterday, citing data from transmission system operator Mavir. Demand reached 6,450 MW early in the afternoon on Tuesday.
Last summer, demand peaked at 6,050 MW. The previous record, of 6,320 MW, was set in 2007. The record for peak demand in winter was also sent in 2007 and stands at 6,602 MW. Demand increases by 90-100 MW for every degree the temperature rises over 24 degrees Celsius, business daily Világgazdaság noted.
