Monetary Council leaves base rate on hold

Analysis

The Monetary Council of the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) did not change the 6.25% Hungarian central bank base rate at its meeting on Monday.

The bank said, however, that, with a gradual increase of the base rate it intends to create monetary conditions that will help inflation to return to the long-term target of 3% after an expected temporary increase.
Many on the market expected a rate hike after the forint weakened onto the weak side of its band last week.
