IT sector best in region
The Economist Intelligence Unit, the biggest non-investment banking- type analyst institute judged Hungary's IT sector the best in the Central European region.
The survey measuring competitive power uses an index where a maximum of 100 points can be reached; world's best US received 77.4, closely followed by Japan's 72.7. The UK proved to be Europe's leader in the sector, while 7 other EU-members made it into the top 20. Hungary was deemed 41.5 points, which granted a 28th place from the 64 countries included in the research. Analysts pointed out that Hungary fared best in terms of IT's business environment, scoring 83 out of 100 in this section.
The sector's legislative regulation also received acclaim with a 74.5 index, whereas infrastructure tallied a meager 24. This section was aimed at mapping up the number of PCs and broadband connections, the extent of web-security, and the amount spent on IT products and services. SMEs, though especially vulnerable to data-loss, seem to invest too little into reasonably priced and effective IT tools and services. (Gazdasági Rádió)
