Hungarians are careless internet users

When it comes to protecting their personal data, Hungarian internet users are rather careless, according to a recently published survey by ESET Magyarország.
The majority of Hungary’s internet users, a group of approximately 3.6 million people, expose their personal data by signing in their email accounts, or even use online banking services on friends’ or publicly available computers.
According to the survey, which was conducted among those aged between 18 and 69 and use the internet at least once a week, 58% of users check their emails on friends’ or colleagues’ computers, and 34% of them access their email accounts from public computers.
Nearly 10% of the queried said they used online banking services on friends’ computers, and 4% of them do so on publicly available computers, such as in internet cafés. Some of the respondents do online shopping with their credit cards: 3% from friends’ computers, and 1% from public ones.
Youngsters tend to take the biggest risk: more than 70% of the respondents aged between 18 and 29 admitted using friends’ computers to check their emails, while only 59% of the 30-39 age group, and 47% of the 40-47 age group do the same.
