Forint strengthens on interbank market

Analysis

Dealers say that many traders have shifted into a wait-and-see mode ahead of Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's Friday speech, which may reveal whether or not the Obama administration is planning to take new measures to stimulate the US economy. Dealers predict that the forint will therefore fluctuate in a narrow range between 271 and 273 against the euro until Bernanke's address.

The forint also strengthened against the Swiss franc and the American dollar on Thursday, trading at 236.69 to the CHF and 187.63 to the dollar at 10:30 a.m., compared to rates of 237.84 and 189.08, respectively, at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
