Fifth of Budapest homes to pay 44% more for district heating

Analysis

One fifth of Budapest's households, some 40,000 families, will have to pay 44.6% more for district heating in 2007, national daily Népszabadság reported on Tuesday.

Adjustments to the price of district heating, based on family income, will save low-income people from the price hike - about 70,500 families, or one third of the total population of the capital, will in fact pay 1.2% less for district heating than now.

The income threshold for the highest price range will be a monthly Ft 93,000 (€360) per family member, while those between the poorest and the well-off will pay either 7% or 15.5% more for heating, depending on the size of their salaries, said the paper. (english.mti.hu)
