Domestic job market strong in Q1 despite epidemic

The year started well for the job market in Hungary, despite the effects of second and third waves of the coronavirus epidemic, according to research by job search portal Profession.hu.
The report says that the effects of the last two waves on the labor market were weaker than the shock brought about by the first wave back in March 2020. The fourth quarter of 2020 already showed clear signs of recovery from the crisis, with a gradual increase in the number of job advertisements, and this trend continued in the first quarter of 2021, despite the coronavirus-relate lockdown in Hungary.
"The number of registered users on our job portal increased by 13% compared to the first quarter of 2020, while the number of uploaded CVs rose by 27%. Compared to the first quarter of 2020, job seekers have a lot more options to choose from, as a large number of companies are already thinking about expansion in 2021," says Imre Tüzes, business development director of Profession.hu.
Compared to the same period last year, domestic companies placed 7% more job ads. Among the counties, Nógrád and Baranya posted the most ads. Traditionally, these counties have few new vacancies, but now they are the first to see an increase, with the number of vacancies up 59% in Baranya and 78% in Nógrád.
The largest increases in the number of new advertisements posted in Borsod County compared to Q1 2020 were registered in the categories of hospitality and tourism, banking and insurance, marketing-media-PR, construction, and engineering.
In Komárom-Esztergom County, the fastest-growing categories were law, health and pharma, education-research, customer service, and agriculture.
In Győr-Moson-Sopron County, the IT operations-telecommunications, agriculture, manufacturing-production, banking and insurance, and customer services sectors were all looking for more workers than a year ago.
And in Fejér County, the number of jobs advertised increased in marketing-media-PR, education-research, construction, IT programming-development, and engineering. In Veszprém County, the fastest-growing fields in terms of job ads were law, marketing-media-PR, administration, construction, and IT.
Application numbers on the rise
Applications are up 16% compared to the same period last year. The counties with the highest increases in the number of applicants to job vacancies were Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg (65%), Nógrád (64%) and Komárom-Esztergom (49%).
The largest decrease was registered in Tolna County (-2%), while the number of applicants stagnated in Hajdú-Bihar County. All other regions of the country saw an increase.
Compared to the first quarter of last year, there was a significant increase in the number of applications per job advertisement in customer service (48%), professional work (31%), manual labor (26%), administration (24%), and business support (12%) categories.
In Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, the number of applicants per ad jumped in the categories of agriculture, HR, IT programming-development, management, and marketing-media-PR compared to the same period last year.
In Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, finance-accounting, construction, customer service, skilled trades, and manufacturing-production attracted more applicants than a year earlier, while in Komárom-Esztergom County, IT programming-development, marketing-media-PR, agriculture, IT operations, and telecommunications and business support centers attracted more applicants than a year earlier.
In Győr-Moson-Sopron County, agriculture, education-research, business management, customer service and IT programming-development showed significant increases in the number of applicants.
In Fejér County, the number of applications for jobs in marketing-media-PR, HR, IT programming-development, health-medicine and public administration was significantly higher than a year earlier, while in Hajdú-Bihar County, the number of applications for jobs in education-research, business support centers, banking-insurance, IT operations-telecommunications and administration was significantly higher than a year earlier.
