Spring frost could waste half of Hungary’s crops

The spring frost that hit Hungary this year could lead to a loss of more than half of the countryʼs crops, deputy head of the national fruit-growers council György Csizmadia told Hungarian daily Magyar Hírlap today.

According to the professional, the loss could cause prices to increase by 20%-25%. The paper added that temperatures in many parts of the country recently dropped to 6-7 degrees below zero.

Farm ministry state secretary György Czerván said yesterday that growers would be eligible for HUF 24 billion in compensation for damages, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.
