Former National Bank of Hungary governor András Simor will become vice president for policy at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) from July 1, the EBRD said on Wednesday. Simor will report directly to the EBRD president and will also be a member of the bank's executive committee. He will be responsible for leading the coordination of strategies, policies and related initiatives supporting the bank's transition mandate. He will also have responsibility for the mobilization and management of donor funds and for the oversight of the bank's engagement with certain external stakeholders and organizations.
“Simor will bring a wealth of experience from the financial sector to the EBRD,” the bank said.
The appointment of Simor was made after a competitive selection process which attracted international interest. His nomination was approved by the EBRD board of directors, following a proposal by President Sir Suma Chakrabarti. Simor's six-year mandate as governor of Hungary's central bank ended early in March.
