RWE may enter gas distribution business in Hungary
Germany’s electric utilities company RWE is assessing the possibility of entering the Hungarian gas wholesale market, the company’s director of communications Norbert Boross told cink.hu.
According to the Gawker group’s Hungarian blog, this was one of the key topics at the most recent meeting between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán during the chancellor’s visit to Budapest.
By entering the gas distribution business, RWE would become a direct competitor of MET Hungary Zrt., a partly off-shore company that is said to be favored by the Hungarian government.
