The introduction of an electronic road haulage tracking system and the mandatory connection of tills to the tax office has raised the Hungarian stateʼs revenue by HUF 420 billion over two years, the National Economy Ministry said yesterday, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.

The road haulage tracking system and electronic tills have not only raised direct tax revenues, they have also boosted revenues from excise fees and fines.

In the first five months of the year, officials from the National Tax and Customs Office (NAV) conducted 22,000 inspections among companies using online tills, levying HUF 403 million in fines and uncovering HUF 563 mln in tax debt.

As part of the road haulage tracking system, 15,000 inspections were conducted during which officials levied fines of HUF 64.5 mln and uncovered HUF 6.8 bln of concealed and unpaid taxes.
