Report: Tax office faces shortage of employees
Last year so many employees left Hungary’s National Customs and Tax Authority (NAV) that their numbers could easily make up an entire branch, and NAV currently has a staff shortage, chiefly due to low salaries, Hungarian weekly Figyelő said in a report based on a document NAV sent to the National Economy Ministry.
Based on the document, Figyelő said that the main reason for the mass exodus was the low wages and the lack of a career model at the bureau. According to Figyelő, NAV urged the ministry to provide a career model for employees. Figyelő reported that the document stated that efficient cooperation cannot be established if employees do not feel that wages within the authority are being distributed in a fair manner.
Figyelő said that the legislation regulating the wages of NAV workers could be brought before the Hungarian Parliament in the fall, while it had been promised that such legislation would be approved by summer.
This comes at a time, when NAV chief Ildikó Vida recently resigned from her position, handing the direction over to Árpád Varga.
