Market Építő Zrt., owned by István Garancsi (on the left) who is reportedly close to Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán (on the right), won a government tender to build the new swimming arena for the Swimming World Cup 2017, for nearly HUF 40 bln, Hungarian online daily hvg.hu reported.

According to HVG, last fall, Garancsiʼs Garhartt Invest Zrt., which deals with sporting activities, bought 51% of Market Építő Zrt. Garancsi is the 36th richest Hungarian and the majority owner of FC Videoton soccer team.  Market Építő Zrt. also constructed the new Groupama Arena of the Ferencváros soccer team.

Earlier, István Garancsi gave an interview to Hungarian weekly Figyelő, in which Garancsi admitted that his relationship with Orbán became closer when he took Orbán and MOL chairman-CEO Zsolt Hernádi (on the middle left, standing next to OTP CEO Sándor Csányi) on a trip to Austria. Garancsi told Figyelő last week that he is “tied” to Orbán with “a rope of friendship”, which he explained is much like when two hikers tie themselves together for support.

The report noted that Magyar Építő Zrt. and Strabag-MML Kft. also signed for the tender. The new swimming arena is expected be erected on Dagály utca and will cost HUF 38.67 bln to build.
