Weather

Summer hail storms caused more than HUF 2 bln in damages for farmers in July, Hungarian economic daily Világgazdaság reported today, citing earlier reports by insurers.

Insurer Generali received 550 claims in July for damages valued at HUF 830 mln, insurer Allianz received close to 1,000 claims for approximately HUF 1 bln in damages, while insurer Groupama said they received 309 claims and have already paid out HUF 250 mln, the daily reported.

The paper noted that damage caused by hail storms is typically concentrated in small areas, but fully assessing the effects takes time as in most cases this can only be done once the harvest is complete.
