Report: Fewer companies close for business this month

Approximately 4,300 companies ceased to operate in Hungary in May of this year – 400 less than in the previous month – signifying a marked decrease in the number of terminated companies, company database Opten Informatikai Kft., said in a press release today.

Opten noted that a total number of 57,000 companies ceased to exist last year, while 39,500 were liquidated in 2013. According to the report, the sluggish attitude towards initiating business will lead to the further cessation of companies this year.

“Due to the increased number of proceedings against companies, we may see a record number of companies being liquidated this year”, said Tamás Tóth Chief Executive Officer at Opten Kft.

In May, at a national level, the lowest number of liquidated businesses originated from Tolna, Bács-Kiskun and Vas county, while the highest number of terminated companies were from the Budapest, Fejér and Nógrád counties.
