Sales turnover at online retailers is expected to see an 18% rise on average in the last quarter of the year, most probably as a result of the approaching holidays, according to a recent survey by GKI Digital and Arukereso.hu.

Sales in the last three months could reach if not exceed one third of the total annual turnover of online retailers, said businesses participating in the survey, entitled the Online Retail Index, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.

Due to the elevated interest and buying in the holiday season, 46% of the businesses included in the survey said the higher volume of orders poses “serious difficulties.” Some 49% of respondents said the speed of their logistical partners does not change in the season, while 53% said the workload their customer service departments face causes them serious difficulties.

The last Friday of November, so-called ‘Black Friday,’ saw 54% of web stores operating in Hungary offering special discounts.

Based on recently available retail data, Hungarians could spend a record HUF 1 trillion in stores and malls in December, the Hungarian Trade Association said in a forecast, as revealed in an earlier report.
